Designed by the eminent architect James Franklin Fuller on the instruction of the Great Southern & Western Railway and the hotel welcomed its first guests in 1895.

The Great Southern Hotel chain has a long and distinguished history, and Parknasilla was a mainstay of the groups attraction, built in response to new railway lines that were been developed at the time from the middle of the 1800’s with the intention of boosting tourism to these iconic locations.
