Derrynane House & National Park
Derrynane House is the ancestral home of Daniel O’Connell, one of Ireland’s most famous sons and one of the most iconic figures of Irish history. “The Liberator” a lawyer, politician and statesman, is best known for achieving Catholic Emancipation in 1829, that is, the right of a Catholic to take a seat in parliament without having to take an oath depreciatory of his religion. He achieved this using peaceful methods and empowering others and inspired many leaders in the following century.
