George Bernard Shaw Weekend
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Literature being awarded to George Bernard Shaw in 1925, Parknasilla Resort and Spa is excited to launch an exhibition titled
“George Bernard Shaw of Parknasilla – A Place Apart.”
The exhibition will open on March 28th.
To coincide with the exhibition opening, we invite you to join us for our George Bernard Shaw Celebration Weekend from March 28th to March 30th. Discover the story of one of the country’s most influential writers and immerse yourself in the retreat life that Shaw enjoyed during his frequent sojourns to Parknasilla in the 1920s.

Weekend program of events:
- An exhibition, “George Bernard Shaw at Parknasilla – A Place Apart.”
- A creative writing workshop led by Professor Eoin Devereux, Director, Centre for The Study of Popular Music and Popular Culture, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Limerick.
- A conversation with Dr. Paddy Malone exploring Shaw’s writing of *St. Joan* while in residence at Parknasilla.
- Poetry Workshop titled George Bernard Shaw: A catalyst for poetry, jointly facilitated by Eileen Sheehan and John W. Sexton.
- An informative guided walk of the estate by our own Tim Buckley, a history enthusiast, reflecting on hotel life at Parknasilla in the 1920s.
- Marine Biologist Vincent Hyland will lead a guided walk reflecting on G B Shaw’s love of Nature and the Sea.
- An evening of entertainment with Frances Kennedy, a renowned Kerry storyteller, after dinner on Friday.
- There will be a tribute to the great music of the 1920s on Saturday evening in the Doolittle Lounge.
- Two nights accommodation in a Parkland View Room, including breakfast.
- À la carte dinner on one evening of your choice in the Pygmalion Restaurant.
